Sauber have said they are working to extend their partnership with Alfa Romeo, which is set to come to an end at the end of this year.

Alfa Romeo made a return to Formula 1 as a sponsor to the Sauber team in 2018, before taking more ownership in 2019 under a deal that lasts until the end of this year. Alfa Romeo team boss Frederic Vasseur is hopeful he can make the deal more long-term, and he’s working with Stellantis to make it happen.

“I think that we have a very good and positive discussion with them to extend the contract, and I hope that we will be continuing,” Vasseur said.

“They have to reorganize a little bit the situation on their side, but I am quite happy and quite positive with the last declaration of Stellantis about the brand Alfa Romeo. They want to be very supportive, and I think Alfa Romeo the brand is a huge asset for the group. It is a huge asset for F1 also at the end because it’s an iconic brand, that was in F1 from the beginning.”

“I hope that we will be able to put everything together.”

Alfa Romeo scored its first point of the year curtesy of Antonio Giovanazzi in Monaco.
