During the Monaco Grand Prix, Lando Norris waved to Daniel Ricciardo after the Australian driver let him pass under the blue flag procedure. Some saw this gesture as a sarcastic way to assert his leadership position at McLaren. The Britton denied these rumors.

After Norris admitted not feeling bad for Ricciardo and just concentrating on his own business as the Australian driver is encountering a tough debut at McLaren, people had the feeling that the relationship was getting tense between the two drivers.

During the Monaco Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo seemed completely off the pace and was even lapped by his 21-year-old teammate. The Australian handed his position very cleanly as soon as the silhouette of Norris appeared in his mirrors.

The Britton then waved to Ricciardo while overtaking him. This gesture was mostly considered as a way of thanking the Australian for handing the position cleanly and not compromising the race of his teammate. Nonetheless, some opinions saying that Norris sarcastically waved at his teammate to assert his current dominance at McLaren emerged after the race.

During a Twitch livestream, the Briton swept the rumors away and admitted being disappointed by the habit of some to take things out of context to make them look worse than they really are, pointing out the fact that he did not just wave at Ricciardo but at every single driver that “properly” handed him their position while under the blue flag procedure.

“Any time someone lets me pass for a blue flag, anyone, if they get out of the way properly and they should I put my hand up and say thanks, alright? I’m saying thanks,” Norris said.

“I [waved] to freaking everyone: Mazepin, Schumacher, Danny [Ricciardo]. Whoever I passed and they got out the way, I put my hand up and say thanks, right?”

“I see so many of you make up absolute crap and nonsense as usual.”

“So, don’t just notice one when I frigging passed Danny and then think I’m doing something that I’m not, alright? Let me just get that point across because I see a lot of stories that people make up.”
