Despite ending the qualifying in the barrier, Charles Leclerc took the pole position for his home race.

The time finally came for the Monaco Grand Prix qualifying. The session was extremely crucial regarding how things would develop on Sunday, so all the drivers were determined to perform at their very best.

Unfortunately for Mick Schumacher, he had to miss the session after his heavy FP3 shunt, which had damaged the chassis.

The majority of the field left the pits to set the lap time as quickly as possible. Lando Norris took the early lead in Q1, though lap times were only improving.

Ferrari proved to be force to be reckoned with once again with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc setting quite competitive lap times. However, it was Valtteri Bottas with the fastest lap time of the segment. Yuki Tsunoda, Fernando Alonso, Nicholas Latifi, Nikita Mazepin, and Mick Schumacher were eliminated.

Q2 started eventually. Ferraris had impressive laps again, but Max Verstappen made it even quicker around the streets of Monaco. The local hero Leclerc set the quickest lap of the segment right at its end. Esteban Ocon, Daniel Ricciardo, Lance Stroll, Kimi Raikkonen, and George Russell did not get to the qualifying finale.

One of the key parts of the entire race weekend started and the drivers wasted no time. Leclerc took the provisional pole after the first outing with Verstappen and Bottas in the top 3.

The final attempts to take pole position started with a couple of minutes to go. A real drama happened with less than a minute until the end of the qualifying – Leclerc crashed in the final sector, so the session had to be suspended. However, the Monegasque’s lap time was not beaten and he went on to win the pole position for Ferrari. Verstappen and Bottas remained in the top 3.
