Austin Cindric does not give himself big hopes for the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series race at COTA.
During the historic NASCAR race weekend at Circuit of the Americas, the reigning Xfinity Series champion will have a double duty. Obviously, he will drive the no.22 Team Penske car in the Xfinity Series as well as the no.33 car of Roger Penske’s team in the Cup Series event. Austin Cindric is an experienced road course driver, which could benefit him at the brand-new venue. He thinks that challenging conditions might help him.
“I think there’s a great opportunity any time that there’s a new challenge for everyone. This weekend being new race track and limited track time” Cindric told ASN Motorsports. “So, definitely looking to do my prep work and set myself a part of that way.”
At the same time, the 22-year-old does not anticipate any special performance from himself in the Cup race.
“I have very little expectation. I think I’ve learned a lot in the Cup races than I’ve done. I’ve definitely understood the talent level and what that means for how I need to approach the race weekend, racing on Sundays.”
The Team Penske driver looks forward to seeing how the COTA debut will work out as road courses appear more and more in NASCAR.
“I’m definitely interested to see how it transfers over as far as the road courses always seem to be a bit of an anomaly. I think they’re becoming less and less seldom than what we’ve had on the schedule, whether that is on Saturdays or Sundays,” he commented.
Though the track brings a lot of unknown, Austin Cindric is ready for it: “I’m excited for it, like I said, it’s a new challenge, and looking to try to taking that on.”
