Both Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo support the introduction of the throwback race concept in Formula 1.

This weekend at the Monaco GP, McLaren will use a special livery dedicated to Gulf Oil and its impact on the team and motorsports in general. As a matter of fact, the new livery has started the speculations on whehter Formula 1 should have a special race weekend, where the teams have the chance to pay tribute to the rich history of the sport. The concept is extremely popular in NASCAR and has a lot of success.

Lando Norris thinks that having a one-off event every year will be a good idea.

“The proper old-school ones would be pretty awesome,” Norris said.

“For one race, it makes it a bit more exciting. It would be cool to see everyone do something like that. Especially when you have a Williams or Ferrari [although] Ferrari would just be red. A lot of teams have had awesome and unique liveries over the years and it would be cool if everyone came up with their own,” he added.

The young Briton also believed that the new livery would put more attention to the team, which would be good.

“It’s nice we are the only ones who are doing it. More eyes on us, unless we both crash into turn one.”

Daniel Ricciardo emphasized that the emotions would prevail over some extra costs.

“I’m aware it’s another expense for the team but that aside, for everything to be a throwback — not just our race suits, but casual wear, down to team hats, to properly do it — that would be cool for everyone to get involved,” he commented.
