Yuki Tsunoda has some questions regarding the feedback that his and Pierre Gasly’s AT02 cars give.
Yuki Tsunoda had a quite disappointing qualifying at the Spanish GP on Saturday. The Japanese AlphaTauri rookie only managed to qualify 16th. After he was out of the car, he reflected on what had happened.
“No, I wasn’t pushing too hard on the out lap, [I] just like do normal,” he said. “The tire temperature is quite spot on before the lap. I think the team, we set up, we set up the tire, but I don’t know. It’s not the place I want to fight.”
“The performance in this car, it’s easy to go to Q2. I really struggled to even go to Q2,” he added.
While Tsunoda ended up in the bottom 5, his teammate Pierre Gasly was in the top 5 in the same session. That raised concerns for him as he had some thoughts about performance of both AlphaTauri cars.
“It’s always different feedback compared to my team-mate, even when we try the opposite,” he commented. “I have a little bit question mark [if it] is the same car – of course it’s the same car, but just the character of the car is just too different.”
“Maybe, of course, it’s a different driving style. But yeah, I don’t know, I don’t understand what happened, why I’m struggling this much,” Tsunoda said in the conclusion.
