After some differences in the car setup in Portugal, both Mercedes drivers will have similar aerodynamic features this weekend in Spain.
Last week during the Portuguese GP, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas drove the cars, slightly different from each other in the aerodynamic aspect. The catch was in the rear wing of the Mercedes W12 car, which of course affected the machinery. However, for the Spanish GP, there will be no special approach as both cars will have the same aerodynamic package in Barcelona, according to Valtteri Bottas. Furthermore, the Finn believed that it was a good decision for the team.
“I think this weekend we’re planning to run the same set-up in terms of rear wing and everything. And I think for this track we have a pretty good understanding what should be optimal for both. So I think from that side it is OK,” Bottas said.
The Mercedes driver made a debrief of the Friday performance, stating that they followed the plan – to be well-prepared for qualifying and race.
“Tonight it’s the usual thing – trying to fine-tune the set-up as best as we can because every millisecond we can find we know is going to help in the quali,” he commented.
At the same time, Bottas expected that the race weekend could bring some surprises, so they should be concentrated on delivering the best result possible.
“It seems close. The Ferrari was pretty good today. You never know.”
“But I think we should still keep focussing on our performance and trying to get maximum out of the package and hopefully we can be ahead. We just focus on ourselves and especially for me personally, focus on my work.”
