Alpine’s Fernando Alonso is happy with his and the team’s performance at Friday’s free practices in Barcelona.

The first day of race track action at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was quite successful for Alpine. Both Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso went on to finish the FP2 in the top 5 – 4th and 5th respectively. The Spaniard himself was delighted with how the day went as he admitted he had gained more confidence behind the steering wheel of the A521 car thanks to the good setup.

“Today has been a good Friday for us,” Alonso said. “During the two sessions we focused on some small improvements that we made to the car this weekend and then we collected some good information about the tires and the configuration of our car.”

“Overall I’m satisfied with our two sessions and I think the balance of the car feels good so it gives me confidence for tomorrow. Let’s see where we are for qualifying,” he added.

Alpine’s racing director Davide Brivio also reflected on the day and confirmed that they would work out on the upgrade package, so it could give as much benefit as possible on the track which is unfavorable for the French outfit lately in the crucial moments.

“It has been a busy day for us, especially with our work in FP2 this afternoon with different fuel loads. We have tested some different elements on the two cars, which gives us good information to review,” Brivio explained.

“We know this track is challenging, especially for our car in the past, so we can be satisfied with this productive start to the weekend. Of course, work will continue tonight and also tomorrow morning to be ready for when really matters.”
