Carlos Sainz ended the Portimao GP in P11 despite starting in the top five after suffering a lot with the medium tires.
Ferrari stopped Sainz earlier to undercut Lando Norris. This move did not pay off, and in the last stages of the race, the Spaniard suffered a lot. Many drivers behind him were faster and he then dropped outside the top ten.
“We knew there would be a high possibility of graining. As soon as we mounted the medium, I knew we would go backward. We tried to undercut Lando very early, and we started to have graining. We went backward. It’s been a good day, but we have to learn from it.”
Sainz also said that he will analyze what happened on Sunday, admitting that it is all part of his learning process.
“This is part of the learning curve. If the undercut had come out, there was still a lot of time ahead. I had to push a lot at that time, and we almost succeeded. Now we have to learn from what happened today and see how we can make it happen.”
