During the two practice sessions, Fernando Alonso said that he felt comfortable with the car, more than in Bahrain and Imola.

Alonso is optimistic for this weekend’s Grand Prix in Portugal, like his teammate Esteban Ocon, who believes that Alpine is in a position to fight on Sunday. Fernando finished 5th in FP2, just behind Carlos Sainz.

So far, it has been the best Friday since he joined Alpine: “It has been a good practice day for me, and I have felt more comfortable compared to Bahrain and Imola. I was happy with the set-up of the car from the beginning of the day, so I have mainly focused on acclimatizing more to the circuit, and then evaluate the tires throughout the two sessions,” explained Alonso.

However, he admitted that on Saturday everything will be harder, and the traffic will play a great part during qualifying.

“There is a lot of data that we have to analyze, but it was a good start to the weekend. I have enjoyed driving on this circuit for the first time in a Formula 1 session, but I think the traffic can be a challenge for tomorrow’s qualifying. It is a very exciting circuit, that’s for sure,” said the Spaniard.
