Following the recent announcement Aprilia will become a fully fledged factory MotoGP team in 2022, rider Aleix Espargaro says he hopes Gresini will stay with the Italian marque.

Gresini will return to independent team status for 2022, after being the outlet for Aprilia since 2015. Under new management following the tragic passing of Fausto Gresini, there is a question mark as to which manufacturer the team will take next year.

Espargaro has been with Aprilia Gresini for many years now, and has weighed in on his hopes for the team.

“I am very happy for the Gresini family, honestly. It’s great for the memory of Fausto if they can continue in MotoGP next year,” said Espargaro.

“I’d like a lot if they’re in charge of a satellite Aprilia team, and I said this to Rivola also. It would be great. Regarding the future of Aprilia it’s another good announcement. I’m very happy and comfortable in the Aprilia team – more than ever.”

Espargaro ended FP1 in second after a strong opening session for Aprilia.
