The fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is going to create a great battle throughout the whole season, believes Jos Verstappen, father of the Red Bull driver.
Plus, Jos believes that the relationship between his son and Lewis will become intense, and he also expects some friction between the two.
“You don’t know what will happen, but if you look at the shoulder blow they gave each other after Imola’s qualification, I think we can expect something this year,” Jos said.
“They are both men who do not want to be inferior to the other. Neither of them will let the other push them aside, especially when it is more and more about the title. I think it is going to be an intense and beautiful year.”
Jos also thinks that both teams are close in terms of performance. Thus, he believes that at any track, either Red Bull or Mercedes can win.
“Toto Wolff continues to say that Red Bull is the best team, while Christian Horner gives Mercedes the role of favorite, but finally we are better in one circuit, and Mercedes is better in another,” he said.
“The fact that we can win every race, in theory, gives us peace of mind, but it also brings more pressure.”
Despite that, Max’s father believes that at the Portuguese venue his son will be very fast since he likes the track a lot.
“Max likes the track, but of course, it has new asphalt, and last year it was very slippery. So we hope it broke a bit because, of course, new asphalt is always very slippery,” said Jos.
“It will be a bit of a mystery: sometimes you arrive, and the balance of the car is fine right away, but you always have to wait until the first practice session. But I have to say, from a distance, that the track suits Max very well.”
