In a statement by Tanal Entertainment, it has been confirmed Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team will enter MotoGP with significant funding from Saudi Aramco.

Tanal Entertainment is the holding company of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Saud, the owner of football clubs such as Sheffield United. It was announced by Tanal Sport & Media that they have teamed up with Valentino Rossi to enter VR46 Team into MotoGP from 2022. The main backed will be oil giant Saudi Aramco, which is a major sponsor of Formula 1. The deal will last until 2026.

The official statement read: “In 2022 the VR46 Team will debut in the MotoGP class together with Tanal Entertainment Sport & Media with Saudi Aramco as the main sponsor for the period 2022-2026.”

VR46 made an entrance into MotoGP this season, backing Luca Marini in the Esponsorama Ducati alongside Enea Bastianini. An interesting note is the bike included in the statement was a Yamaha M1 road machine, which might give us a clue as to what the marque may be.

It throws many questions into the air as to whether Rossi himself is planning on leaving Petronas Yamaha to concentrate on his own team, and who will ride for the newest entrant into MotoGP.
