Erik Jones believed that last Sunday’s Cup Series race at Talladega was one of the best opportunities for the no.43 team to win.
Despite the late wreck at Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, Erik Jones had a solid race, and even got to the race lead in the closing stages of the race. The Richard Petty Motorsports driver spoke about what he felt during that moment.
“I was hoping it was going to stay green, I thought that was our best shot to try to win,” Jones told ASN Motorsports. “Unfortunately, we had that yellow come out.”
“Just tried to defend the line and what was coming and just trying to obviously keep that lead. So, I was just happy to get upfront, lead some laps with the Air Force on the car, that was our first race this year, so it was cool to get them upfront,” he added.
“Obviously, I wished we could close the race out a little bit better, but overall I thought it was a good race for us,” the no.43 car driver said in the conclusion.
Erik Jones finished 27th at Talladega after the last-lap wreck.
