Aprilia rider Aleix Espargaro has said he and his team are not afraid of the challenge being so close to the top presents.

Aprilia are currently enjoying their most successful season to date. Three top tens on the trot for the team is something they have not achieved since 2017. This year, the team formerly led by the late Fausto Gresini, are proving to be on par with the top runners. Aleix Espargaro sits sixth in the riders title, and carrying Aprilia itself to fifth in the teams title.

This weekend will be the ultimate test of a bike that looks to handle well – the tight and twisty Jerez circuit, with plenty of varying speed turns to challenge a bikes cornering ability. Speaking in an interview today, Espargaro says he thinks Aprilia is up for the challenge Jerez poses.

“We are definitely coming into this weekend with a positive outlook. In the first three races, we tackled two circuits which were both particular in their own way, but still showing that we have the pace to battle with the best. Jerez is a ‘traditional’ track, if you will, but very complete and therefore demanding.”

“In the winter tests I felt good here, but now we’ll find different conditions and, more importantly, fierce rivals.  We’re not afraid of the challenge because we are working well and we need to keep growing.”

Espargaro has yet to take a top 5 finish with Aprilia, a stat which may very well topple this weekend when MotoGP returns.
