Felipe Drugovich concluded the three days of Formula 2 testing on top, scoring the fastest time of all for UNI-Virtuosi.
The Brazilian driver was extremely fast. He was the only one to break the wall of 1m28s around the Spanish venue.
The conditions were perfect, the track was dry, and Drugovich set a time of 1:27.945 during the morning session. In the second place, there was Oscar Piastri (1:28.105), less than 0.200s behind, and the top-three was completed by Christian Lundgaard (1:28.285).
The teams could use the new 2021 Pirelli tires. The hard compound was already used in the season opener in Bahrain, while the medium one has not been used yet.
Once again, the teams focused on setting a faster time in the morning session, while in the afternoon, they switched their attention to long runs.
In fourth, there was Liam Lawson (1:28.422), with his teammate Juri Vips (1:28.433) only 0.011s behind. The top-ten was completed by Theo Pourchaire (1:28.484) in sixth, then Robert Shwartzman (1:28.491) in seventh, Bent Viscaal (1:28.736) in P8, Lirim Zendeli (1:28.737), and Guanyu Zhou (1:28.755) in P9 and P10 respectively.
The red flag was waved in the air twice in the morning. The first time because Alessio Deledda pulled over on the track, and then because Jehan Daruvala had some problems and stopped too, towards the end of the session.
Since the teams focused on long runs, the times were much slower in the afternoon session, which was stopped twice as well. The first time by Lawson and the second one because of Richard Verschoor.
The next time the F2 cars will hit the track will be around the streets of Monaco, on the weekend of 20-22 May.
