Mercedes-EQ’s Stoffel Vandoorne is stripped of today’s Valencia E-Prix pole position after the tire rule violation.
There is some drama already at Circuit Ricardo Tormo with over an hour until Saturday’s Valencia E-Prix race gets underway. It has been announced that Stoffel Vandoorne has lost his pole position. The reason for that is the infringement of the tire rule. According to the officials, the Belgian used the tire compound not identified in the technical passport of the car.
Article 25.3 of the Formula E sporting regulations says: “The only allowable markings applied by the Competitor onto the tire sidewalls are for the purpose of identification of the car number, the set number, and the tire location. All other markings are prohibited.”
All Stoffel Vandoorne’s lap times have been deleted, which has promoted DS Techeetah’s Antonio Felix da Costa to the top starting position for today’s race. Another Mercedes-EQ driver Nyck de Vries will be on the front row.
