Nine-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi has been honest in his opinion and praise of Moto3 rookie Pedro Acosta, saying his impact on Moto3 is incredible.

Pedro Acosta is only 16, yet he has almost double the points of anyone else in the Moto3 category only three races in. A 2nd and two 1st places give him 70 points so far in the title, 41 points ahead of his teammate Jaume Masia, and two race wins ahead of fifth-place Andrea Migno.

Valentino Rossi keeps an eye on things in the junior classes through his VR46 Academy which he owns and runs, and he has made no secret about his thoughts on Acosta.

“Portimao was impressive because Acosta did another fantastic race, his approach and his impact on Moto3 is unbelievable because he is first position in the championship and has already won two races, second-first-first,” Rossi said

“So it’s incredible. He made a perfect race today, also in the battle. So I think he has a great talent, he’s very strong. And I’m very happy also for Migno who is coming back on the podium after a long time, after a solid weekend.”

There are still 16 races currently scheduled left to run, but even at such an early stage it’s hard to look past Acosta as the title favourite.
