Alex Bowman admits that his win at Richmond Raceway is quite surprising after all the circumstances he has been in during the race.

Alex Bowman scored his third NASCAR Cup Series win last Sunday at Richmond. However, that victory did not come easy. The Hendrick Motorsports driver got a penalty for the uncontrolled tire at the pit stop. He had to make his way up to the top 5 through long runs and he found himself in the 3rd position in the closing stages of the race. After a late caution, he got the opportunity to fight for the win and capitalized it to take the chequered flag. The no.48 car driver spoke about his thoughts about the race win.

“It [race win] was a surprise to me I guess,” Bowman told ASN Motorsports. “I knew we were really good, but we were buried in the field twice throughout the day and were able to come back from that pit road penalty and pass as many cars as we did under green – we drove from last to third.”

“The leaders were pretty checked out and then cut that late caution to be able to pass the 22 [Joey Logano] and the 11 [Denny Hamlin] – it was really neat,” he added.

Alex Bowman also shared the confidence he had had in his Chevrolet Camaro all day long. Despite that, it was only the final stretch, which had shown the full speed of the car.

“I felt like we had a car capable of winning all day, just didn’t have the track position to get up there and do it until the end.”
