As the Formula 3 pre-season testing came to an end, Victor Martins put MP Motorsport on top for the second day in a row, going even faster than yesterday.
Victor Martins (1:31.636) topped the session once again, behind him, Alex Smolyar (1:31.768), driving for ART Grand Prix. The top three was completed by Jack Doohan (1:31.803) in his Trident.
After the rain hit the track on day one, the drivers luckily found dry conditions in Barcelona for the morning session. Trident was the first team to collect data and kilometers, with Doohan and Clement Novalak battling to get the fastest lap at the start of the session. In the morning hours, they kept switching positions, but then, it was Doohan who went faster, securing P3 in the standings, while Novalak went fifth fastest (1:31.876).
Later during the session, Roman Stanek had to stop on the track, and the red flag was waved in the air, thus the session was stopped. It was not the only red flag of the morning because Matteo Nannini got stuck in the gravel bringing out a second red flag. A third one was brought out by Juan Manuel Correa since his car stopped in Turn 9. Despite having some problems, Nannini managed to finish in P6 (1:31.889), and Correa closed the top ten with a time of (1:32.011).
It was a good day for Logan Sargeant as well, who put Charouz in P4 (1:31.806), just 0.003s behind Doohan in third. Ayumu Iwasa was also able to sneak into the top ten, setting the seventh fastest time (1:31.919). Frederik Vesti (1:31.933) and Dennis Hauger (1:31.999) only managed to finish P8 and P9 respectively.
During the afternoon session, the teams focused more on the long runs. Calan Williams put Jenzer Motorsport in P1 (1:32.518) for the afternoon session, but his time was not faster than the one set by Martins during the morning, actually, it was even slower than his own time in the morning session (1:32.197).
Behind him, there were Iwasa, and Pierre Louis Chovet (their time was not faster than the one set in the morning), almost half a second behind the leader of the afternoon session.
Stanek and Caio Collet completed the top five, collecting many data and laps in the afternoon (55 and 57 respectively).
Nannini and Rafael Villagomez finished in sixth and seventh (their time was not faster than the one set in the morning either). They were followed by the Carlin Buzz Racing duo: Kaylen Frederik and Jonny Edgar (their time was not faster than the one set in the morning). Finally, the top ten was completed by Campos Racing’s Lorenzo Colombo, who did not improve his morning time either.
Now that the pre-season testing is over, the next time the F3 cars will hit the track will be in two weeks at the Barcelona GP.
