Mattia Binotto confirms that Scuderia Ferrari has started working on the 2022 challenger since the start of 2021.
Formula 1 will have brand-new regulations next season and the cars will look quite difficult with all the modifications. It will be a significant change, so the teams need to be prepared for that and the requires quite some time. Ferrari’s team principal Mattia Binotto shared that the Prancing Horses had already started the development of the 2022 car.
“Is it time to switch to 2022? We already switched from January. So the team is already focused on next year. We will have still some development on 2021 [car] but that’s not our priority,” Binotto said.
He also added that the team was delighted with the progress of the SF21 car, stating that the issues with correlation were behind.
“I think the car for 2021 is where we were expecting, so good correlations with our data. Which is great.”
After the opening two races of the 2021 Formula 1 season, Scuderia Ferrari is 4th in the Constructors’ Championship with 34 points scored.
