Brandon Jones admitted that he would have prefered to have a qualifying session at Talladega to see the pure speed of the cars.

It goes without saying that Joe Gibbs Racing is the top team in both NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series. It also regards the way how the team prepares for every single race, including the upcoming events at Talladega. The driver of the no.19 JGR car in the Xfinity Series Brandon Jones gave an insight on how the preparations went in the team both this weekend and in the past.

“We haven’t really come up with anything special or bringing anything special to the track this weekend,” Jones told ASN Motorsports.

“I know a lot of development has definitely gone into superspeedway racing in the past. I think a couple of years that I’ve been at Gibbs we’ve taken a lot more cars to wind tunnels. I feel like we’ve definitely put a lot more effort into our superspeedway program and it shows for sure,” he added.

Jones also said that he would have loved to have qualifying at Talladega.

“I wish that we had qualifying because that’s where you really see your development through the off-season and on the race cars. How much you’ve actually done is that qualifying effort,” he commented.

“But when you get in the race, you can do so much to manipulate your car in the draft. You can add hundreds of counts of downforce to your car just by moving it around where you want it to and then putting it on people’s quarter panels. So tough judge, whenever you get in the race, but that one-lap speed is where you really see some effort.”

In the end, he was also optimistic about his chances on Saturday.

“But we’ve been putting a lot of time in, I know the guys at JGR have been busting it lately to give us the best, super as possible on the racetrack. So I think that it’s going to shine this weekend here for us.”

Brandon Jones will start the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega 7th.
