Carlos Sainz was happy to see a strong weekend from his former McLaren teammate Lando Norris at the Emilia Romagna GP.

Lando Norris had a very solid weekend in Imola – he would have qualified in the top 3 if not the track limits violation, but on the following day he made amends, had a brilliant performance, and finished 3rd, scoring his second F1 podium. The driver, who had known Norris more than anyone else, Carlos Sainz, showed hid pleasure with the performance of the young Briton.

“It looked like this weekend Lando did a very good job of exploiting the whole car potential. He was on it the whole weekend, especially from Saturday onwards. And he did a good race,” Sainz said.

At the same time, the Spaniard added that Scuderia Ferrari and McLaren are quite close to each other.

“I think the McLaren has its strengths and weaknesses. So what makes it like a really nice fight is that we are quick in very different places on the track and it makes it a very fun battle.”

Sainz also anticipated that the Prancing Horses will show their strength in the battle with McLaren eventually.

“It is very tight,” he said. “Maybe they had a bit of the upper hand this weekend or they had the upper hand a tiny bit the last two weekends. But as soon as we do a very good weekend and we going to a track that maybe favours us a bit I think we can be ahead.”
