It has been announced via Twitter by Rick Ware Racing that Jennifer Jo Cobb is not approved to race at Talladega in the NASCAR Cup Series.

In a twist of events leading up to this weekend’s race at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR’s sanctioning body decided to not approve Cobb to race in the Cup Series event, slated for Sunday. This follows last week’s announcement by Rick Ware Racing, that Jennifer Jo Cobb would pilot the number 15 car.

“This is an unfortunate situation, but as a team we support NASCAR’s decision to uphold the sanctioning bodies rules and regulations.” Rick Ware said via Twitter.

Cobb has never raced in the Cup Series, so she must submit an approval request to NASCAR’s competition committee, outlining their previous racing experience. NASCAR has recently tightened restrictions on who may, or may not, compete at the highest level, likely deeming her not on PAR based on her resume.

Although she was approved to race in the Cup Series in the past, the rules state that “Any previously approved driver who has not competed for at least one year must resubmit the Driver Information and Record application.”

It has not been announced who will fill-in for Rick Ware Racing, or if they decide to withdraw their car completely from the race.

The Geico 500 at Talladega will take place on Sunday, April 25th, at 2:00pm ET.
