Luca Corberi is banned from participating in racing events after the incident that took place in a karting race last year.
During karting KZ category world finals in 2020, the Italian Luca Corberi has made an extremely dangerous action of throwing a front wing of his kart right under the vehicle of the driver, with whom he had had the incident. The incident was widely discussed and critisized in the motorsports community.
The FIA then initiated the investigation to find out the causes of the incident and to punish the 23-year-old driver for such violent behavior. During the hearings, it was revealed that Corberi “in a state of anger, determined by the unjust fact of others.”
In the end, it was revealed that Corberi was given a 15-year competition ban from “taking part in any motorsport events organised, directly or indirectly, by the FIA or the ANSs, or from exercising any role or function within the FIA.” This would at least dramatically impact his career.
The FIA’s International Tribunal also stated in the decision: “The tribunal decided that a 15-year sanction would be adequate and proportional, since such a sanction clearly reflects the gravity of the facts and the violence involved,” the decision reads, saying Coberi’s actions were “extremely serious and could have resulted in injuries for any of the drivers participating in the race (including himself).”
“This sanction is one of the most serious sanctions that the tribunal can impose,” it added. “No other sanction would be able to achieve the envisaged goals of general and specific deterrence and rehabilitation to the same degree – as such, this measure is necessary.”
