Despite finishing the Emilia Romagna GP in P11, behind teammate Esteban Ocon, and after losing his front wing on the warm-up lap going to the grid, Fernando Alonso claims that he is happy about the result and that he is looking at the positives after a difficult race.
Even though Alpine has brought updates to their cars for the race, the Spaniard left Imola with no points on the board, after squabbling with the back end of the grid during the 63 laps. However, though, he desires to see the positive part following his first F1 drive in the wet since the 2018 German GP.
“Very close to the points, happy with how the race went, it’s the first one I finished,”said Alonso after the race.
“These are experiences that are left in my pocket, with each lap I take I feel more comfortable. I’m learning things. Finishing was very important. In these very difficult conditions, this race has been worth two or three in terms of sensations”.
Alonso continued by pointing out the importance of car knowledge for an F1 driver, saying that “when you go to Roland Garros or Wimbledon, you train much earlier, you acclimatize to the ground, to the court of that tournament (…). Here you have three days of testing, and they put you in the Championship. So imagine what I have learned. I’ll keep that.”
“Now we have a race binge. This stoppage will serve us to prepare and improve,” he said in conclusion.
After a long wait, Formula 1 is back and the Emilia Romagna GP has shown how important practice is in the sport, with a crazy race that everyone certainly has something to learn from.
