Lewis Hamilton is on pole position for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, with Sergio Pérez second and Max Verstappen third.
Qualifying began with Mick Schumacher going out first followed by his teammate Nikita Mazepin, both on the soft compound. The German was first to set a lap time, it being 1:16.806, with his Russian teammate exactly one second behind with a lap time of 1:17.806.
The session was then red flagged with 12 minutes to go, as Yuki Tsunoda crashed at turn 15 into the tire barriers after losing control of the car trying to correct off the corner.
Green flag conditions resumed after a few minutes of track clean-up. Pérez was first to set the fastest lap after the restart with a time of 1:15.744 with the same set of soft tires he had fitted at the start; however, his lap time was deleted for exceeding lap limits.
Valtteri Bottas (SOFT) was the first car to go into the 1:14s, setting a lap time of 1:14.926, with Lando Norris (SOFT) behind by a gap of +0.083s, and Verstappen (SOFT) third by a gap of +0.183s.
Mazepin had issues while setting a flying lap; he had a moment at the Villeneuve section, touching the gravel. Surprisingly, the Russian did not spin.
In the end, it was Valtteri Bottas topping Q1 with a time of 1:14.672, with his teammate Lewis Hamilton behind by a gap of +0.151s and Lando Norris third by a gap of +0.337s.

The second qualifying session got underway with both Mercedes going out in the Medium compound. Bottas set a lap time of 1:15.098s but was quickly beaten by his teammate Lewis Hamilton whose lap time was 1:14.817, with Verstappen (MEDIUM) placing second by a gap of +0.067 to the Briton.
Norris (SOFT) then went on to set the fastest lap time of the session with a 1:14.718s, +0.99s ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
In the end, it was Sergio Pérez (SOFT) who set the fastest lap of Q2 with a time of 1:14.716s, with Norris (SOFT) behind by a gap of +0.002s and Leclerc (SOFT) third by a gap of +0.092s.

Lando Norris (SOFT) was the first to set a competitive lap on Q3 with a time of 1:14.875s. His time was quickly beaten by Lewis Hamilton (SOFT) as he set a 1:14.411s lap, with Verstappen (SOFT) behind by +0.091s and then Pérez moving to third by a gap of +0.254s.
In the end, it was Lewis Hamilton (SOFT) taking pole position, with Sergio Perez (SOFT) second by a gap of +0.035s and Max Verstappen (SOFT) third by a gap of +0.087s.
