George Russell is impressed with Williams’ performance so far at Imola and Nicholas Latifi’s pace in particular.
Friday was a good day in the office for Williams Racing with a couple of good lap times. Nicholas Latifi was the one who had surprised especially with his 13th place in FP2. His teammate George Russell was carried away by the Canadian’s result as well the team’s in general and said that it was the best performance he had seen from Latifi so far.
“I think as a team, [we’re] looking fast. Personally, I’m a bit off the pace. Nicholas is driving really, really well. Probably the best I’ve ever seen him drive, and he’s got a real shot at the moment,” Russell said.
The young Briton also shared his expectations for Saturday’s qualifying, stating the Q2 would be the main priority as well as Nicholas Latifi might try to punch his ticket to the Q3.
“I’d hope a minimum of Q2, to be honest. We’ve had a number of Q2 appearances over the last two seasons, and I think we’re looking stronger than ever,” Russell commented.
“Certainly Nicolas is, he was a good four-tenths ahead of me today, and he’s probably got a real good shot at Q3, to be honest. So let’s see what we can do tomorrow [on Saturday],” he added.
