Aston Martin’s boss Otmar Szafnauer has not ruled out the possibility of the team taking legal actions against the FIA for the 2021 regulations change introduced by the governing body.

Szafnauer believes the regulation change, which was meant to reduce the downforce produced by the car and therefore reducing the load on the tires, was made to hurt the Mercedes’ domination of the sport, something he says also affected his team as their machines follow the same low-rake concept as the Silver Arrows.

In talks with Sky Sports, Szafnauer did not rule out the possibility of the team taking legal action against the FIA.

“I think the right thing to do is you have the discussion with the FIA to find out exactly what happened and why and then see if there’s something that can be done to make it more equitable,” he said.

“We as a team have to work hard to try to claw back everything we can but, at the same time, we should be having the discussion with the FIA to see if anything can be done to make it a bit more equitable.”
