The rookie driver for Haas did not start his Formula 1 career in the best way. His debut ended only four corners into the race. Therefore, Mazepin said he has “many things to improve.”
During the time between the first race in Bahrain, and the second Grand Prix, which is going to be held in Imola, the Russian driver took some time to reflect. He reckons that he has to analyze his mistakes to improve and become a better racing driver in the future.
Mazepin spun in qualifying and struggled a lot on Saturday. Plus, as already said before, he lost control of his car at the beginning of the Grand Prix, resulting in a crash against the barriers, which ended his debut race right away.
“For me, it has been important to use these two weeks to get away and reflect on the weekend to see the things that I need to improve, which, as a rookie, are many”, said Mazepin.
Haas Team Principal, Guenther Steiner, said that Nikita has been criticized a lot for his mistake in Bahrain. Moreover, he said that the Russian driver received a lot of critics a lot since the time he had signed with Haas, but Steiner does not believe that what has been said to him influenced his debut.
Finally, Mazepin concluded: “It is nice to come home and see my family. Taking into account that we have a busy schedule ahead of us this year, these two weeks have been important.”
