Daniel Ricciardo admits he is yet to find out when he will feel himself completely at ease in the new McLaren car.
Daniel Ricciardo showed confident pace and seemed to be quick in the opening race weekend of the 2021 Formula 1 season in Bahrain. The Australian driver qualified 6th and finished 7th in the race. Despite performing on a high level in Bahrain, Ricciardo still does not feel fully comfortable in the MCL35M car.
“I do feel like I’ve started a step in front. But to know when I’ll be nailing a perfect lap, hopefully not too long, but I can’t answer that at the moment, I’m not sure,” Daniel Ricciardo said.
At the same time, the former HRT, Toro Rosso, Red Bull Racing, and Renault driver was impressed with how McLaren helped him adapt during the offseason.
“I think they’ve worked me pretty hard over the last few months pretty well. They’ve done a pretty outstanding job to get me up to speed and I guess to educate me as much as possible with the team,” Ricciardo remarked.
“Obviously I’m experienced in sport, but I think trying to really capitalize and maximize the new environment, it takes a lot of effort and time. So I think it will keep improving all the time,” he said in the conclusion.
