2021 Dakar Champion and former Honda rider Kevin Benavides has signed with Red Bull KTM Factory Team for all of his upcoming rally-raid adventures.
The Argentine, who rode with Honda for a long period of time and won the 2021 edition of the Dakar Rally in the bikes, has now made a move to the Red Bull KTM Factory Team.
The Austrian-sponsored squad hopes to re-take the lead of the Dakar Rally after Honda won the first two editions of the Saudi Arabian course. Current KTM riders Matthias Walkner and Toby Price had a difficult 2021 edition, with Walkner falling back the order due to mechanical issues and Price retiring after an incident.
“Today begins a new chapter of my sporting career alongside KTM Racing and my new KTM 450 Rally,” said Benavides on Twitter.
“As the actual Dakar champion it’s a great responsibility, and I’ll give it all on the bike once again.”
“It’s exciting to join KTM, it’s a great, great opportunity for me. It’s an important new chapter in my career as a rider, I’ve always been a fan of the KTM bikes, of Red Bull, and the way of how the team is organized.
“I think it’s the best decision possible in order to win more Dakars and World Championships,” he said.
