AJ Allmendinger admits that it will be a special moment for him to win Martinsville’s grandfather clock, which is among the most desired trophies.
Every NASCAR driver goes racing at Martinsville Speedway with only one goal – to win. The reward for winning is surely worth the efforts – the famous grandfather clock. Any driver wants to add it to the trophy collection. Kaulig Racing driver and this week’s Dash 4 Cash participant AJ Allmendinger shared his thoughts about getting that trophy.
“I hope so [to get to win the clock]. I’m not going to discredit any race track that we go to. A win is a win and it’s a huge deal. We’ve all seen my excitement level when we win a race,” Allmendinger told ASN Motorsports.
The no.16 car driver also expressed his pleasure with driving at the Paperclip.
“Martinsville, the grandfather clock, it’s one of those races that I’ve always enjoyed in the Cup side of it and really enjoyed it last year in the Xfinity side of it.”
AJ Allmendinger believed that to win at Martinsville more than just a good race would be needed because of high competition.
“Just to me, in NASCAR there are some iconic trophies and the grandfather clock is rated at the top of them and it’ll be pretty special to go get it, but the competition level in the Xfinity Series this year is higher than I’ve ever seen in at least last couple of years, so it’s going to be tough. And you’ve got to be perfect for the whole race, track position is critical, restarts, and even with that said, you can do everything right and still have a bad finish by getting in some contact.”
“So, we’re going to do everything that we can. I know we had great package last year at Kaulig Racing and especially with our car and we’ve worked hard to try to improve it. So, hopefully, we’ve got a fast HyperIce Chevy tomorrow night and we’ll go get it,” he said in the conclusion.
