Monster Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo says he is more confident than last season after an against-the-odds win at the second Qatar round.

Quartararo, who started fifth, scythed through the four powerful Ducati’s to take a memorable win in the Doha Grand Prix. The race was almost a carbon-copy of the Qatar Grand Prix last week, when Yamaha teammate Maverick Vinales did the same thing to win.

In an interview after his win, Quartararo said he’s more confident than ever after being sure the Ducati’s were almost unstoppable.

“I feel like this win gives me much more confidence than the wins from last year as I came from far back. In the test it was difficult and I say ‘Woah’, because the Ducati are fast in the straight and in the pace and it would be difficult to beat them. “

“But actually you need to look at yourself and try to be the best you can, and this is what we did today and it gave me a boost of confidence for the future.”

His win added to his fifth place finish in the season opener, means he is tied with Vinales going into Portimao, where only 18 points cover the top six. Johann Zarco leads the world championship on 40 points.
