Mercedes has not yet committed to the Gen3 era, saying it is awaiting clarification about the series structure.
The deadline for manufacturers to confirm their commitment to the Gen3 regulations passed on March 31st.
While Mercedes is still expected to commit to those regulations, they have now delayed their decision as they await clarification “regarding the structure of the series.”
“Whilst recent discussions relating to key topics such as the implementation of a cost cap for Formula E have been largely positive, there are still important details regarding the structure of the series which are in clarification.
“For this reason, the decision has been taken to delay our registration to enable these points to be finalized,” reads a Mercedes statement.
So far, four manufacturers announced their commitment to Gen3 rules, including Mahindra, DS Automobile, Nissan, and Porsche. Dragon Penske is also set to commit, having a multi-year partnership with Bosch.
