McLaren started the 2021 season with the right foot, finishing the Bahrain Grand Prix in P4 and P6 collecting some good points for the constructor championship, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Even though the car is already performing well, Lando Norris said that the MCL35M can be even faster, and he is confident with the package they have this year. The McLaren driver is happy to see that the gap between Red Bull and Mercedes is now thinner, and he believes it can be even smaller in the future.

However, Lando admitted that the car is not perfect, and there are a few areas that can be improved. On Saturday, it does not seem that the British team is the fastest. However, on Sunday, their pace is better than every other team on the grid.

“We have narrowed the gap a bit, and we hope to be even closer on some circuits. It is difficult to know if we are the best of the rest, but we are happy. The car is good; it has strong and also weak points, on which we must continue working. , and I also speak of the part of the engine,” said Lando.

“It’s not easy, but we have tenths of a second to win, and there are things that can make the work of the drivers much easier. I think we have work to do on Saturday in qualifying, more than on Sundays. In the race we also have things to work for making the car faster is not all perfect.”

Something that McLaren wants to improve is the engine to stay in front of Ferrari and AlphaTauri. Andreas Seidl, McLaren team boss, said that the learning about the power unit will be broadened in the next races.

“We have been together for a short time, and I am sure that we will learn new things in the coming days, which will help us for the next races. Bahrain was the first weekend of pressure, and, so far, everything is going very well. The teamwork with Mercedes has been great,” concluded Seidl.
