Prema’s Formula 2 driver Oscar Piastri has named his maiden series victory on Saturday the craziest in his racing career.

Yesterday’s Formula 2 Sprint Race 2 was full of spectacular action and drama until the very end. In fact, the event’s decisive overtake was fascinating and it was on the last lap – the rookie Oscar Piastri made an overtake on Guanyu Zhou to score his first win of the championship. Shortly after, the Australian reflected on his run.

“Regardless of whether this is the second or the last race I do in F2 I think that has got to go down as the craziest race I’ve ever had and craziest victory I’ve ever had,” said Piastri.

The 2020 Formula 3 champion also praised the efforts of the team: “I can’t thank the team enough obviously the pit stop to softs at the end was the right move.

“I made some good moves in the end and put myself in a good spot and here we are on the top step,” Piastri added.

He noted the fact that the pit stop was a game changer for his race: “To be honest while I was on hards it was pretty easy to keep a calm head as I was going backwards but once we put softs on I think I came out eighth I knew there were only four or five or even less cars ahead that had put softs on. I knew we were in a good spot.”

“That win was in sight with two laps to go. It was pretty crazy and I’m still processing it to be honest,” Oscar Piastri said in the conclusion.

Oscar Piastri has the 7th starting spot in Formula 2’s Feature Race at Bahrain International Circuit.
