After a great P4 finish, Lando Norris admitted he was hoping to get another ‘season opener’ podium.
Lando Norris says he is very happy with today’s performance as McLaren managed to clinch third place in the constructor’s championship after Bahrain’s season opener.
The Britton insisted on the good performances of the MCL35M, especially in terms of race pace. Indeed, the 21 years old driver managed to overtake Leclerc’s Ferrari as well as Gasly’s Alpha Tauri at the start of the race, proving the great work of the Woking-based team during this year’s off-season.
“The Mercedes and Red Bulls were a little bit ahead, they pulled away a lot, (…) I had to pass the Ferraris cleanly on track, on pure pace. Pierre and Daniel I got around on the outside at Turn 4, my little overtakes, so the pace was good.” he says.
Norris also admitted he was really hoping to be able to score another podium after Bottas’ catastrophic pit-stop that lasted more than 10 seconds.
“Something happened with Bottas in his stop, I was hoping that was him out of the race, to be honest! (…) I don’t wish that upon anyone obviously but I thought for a minute something might be coming from it. Last year started to flashback a bit.” says Norris.
“But no, I’m very happy with P4. I think we had a good pace, to be honest. The car was nice, I was maintaining a good gap, but I also had to get past Daniel, past Pierre, past Charles, so it wasn’t easy,” he added, letting us know he is happy with today’s performance and his race management.
