Carlos Sainz finished eighth on his debut as a Ferrari driver. The Spaniard scored four points for the team and can look back on his performance with the team with great satisfaction.

The Spaniard finished eighth on his Ferrari debut and showed that the Ferrari has definitely made a step forward compared to last year.

“It was very important to finish this race to gain experience. There will be time to make the starts I made at McLaren and play hard. Now it’s time to learn. If I can have this pace in the coming races, I will be happy”.

He did not get a very good start and he knew that he needed a better performance at the start to be able to race at the front in the long run.

“We’ll have to see if there was any damage, but it went relatively well. It was a shame at the beginning, I couldn’t drive well and then I took it quite calmly. I still did not know this car in dirty air and In the first laps I was pretty lost. Then I went very fast and I’m happy. Even if I lost those positions, I could be there.”

Sainz felt faster than the two cars in front, but the fact that they were so close has hindered him to overtake them. Nevertheless, he was satisfied with the four points and was looking forward to the next races:

“I had much more rhythm than Stroll and Fernando, but they were close together and it was difficult to overtake them. That’s why I lost a lot of time there. When I managed to be in clean air we were going very fast, but today I learned how the car behaves in the air. Dirty, but with clean air it went very fast.”
