George Russell said that Williams’ run has been “better than expected” after Friday practices at the Bahrain Circuit.

The team comes off a difficult 2020 in which they did not manage to score any points. Williams is hopeful that this year’s car is stronger and will allow the Grove-based squad to fight with other cars, something we did not see from then until the last period of 2020.

“It was obviously tricky conditions,” said Russell about the track. “Second practice felt pretty good. The high fuel pace was better than expected, even with these gusty winds. So I was pleasantly surprised about that.

“But equally, the wind is changing so much at the moment, obviously it affects everybody a huge amount. But I do believe our car is a little bit more sensitive to those changes.

“So finger crossed is it either calm or in a favorable direction tomorrow and Sunday. I think it’ll be a long and tricky race. But nevertheless, I’m looking forward to it.”
