After managing to put his McLaren in second position at the end of FP2, Lando Norris qualified on P7 for tomorrow’s race. He commented on the team’s performance.

Lando Norris qualified in P7, just 5 hundredths of a second behind his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. The Britton, however, is happy about his performance and thinks it was bold to think he could qualify between P1 and P4 like a lot of people did.

“Everyone was thinking we were going to be heroes for some reason after yesterday, but we were never going to be. We kind of focussed on ourselves, we didn’t see the results as anything special, so we can be happy with the result today.” says Norris.

“We’re quite happy. Of course, we would have been a bit happier to be ahead of both the Ferraris and both AlphaTauris. But I think throughout all of qualifying it was sure that the AlphaTauris were quite a bit quicker than us, or just quicker than us, from the very first run we did in qualifying.” he added.

Watching McLaren’s onboard could let us think the car was a little bit ‘under-steery’ and therefore hard to engage in some tight corners. The 21 years old Britton thinks there is a lot to improve on the car in terms of handling to make it more drivable and will definitely work on this aspect with the team to make sure they have a good race on Sunday.

“The car was pretty difficult to drive and tricky so as a driver I’m not going to be happy with it, and we spent a lot of time last night trying to make improvements. (…) I think I’m where I deserve to be and we are as a team. So we’ve got a fight on our hands tomorrow and we’ll try and go forwards.”
