GMS Racing’s Raphael Lessard leads the standings of the Truck Series opening practice at the Bristol dirt track.
The dirt NASCAR racing is back. The trucks have got on this surface for the first time since Eldora in 2019 and for the first time ever at Bristol Motor Speedway, so that promised great track action from the first practice instantly.
Sheldon Creed was the first driver to try out the track. He later was followed by a number of other drivers.
Brett Moffitt brought the red flag after spinning out due to losing grip. The green flag was returned shortly after.
Raphael Lessard took the early lead in the standings, followed by Carson Hocevar and Hailie Deegan. However, Deegan had some struggles as she also spun.
The track kept slicking up on the racing line, which changed the track conditions dramatically.
We also saw Zane Smith and Jake Griffin having problems. Bubba Wallace and Stewart also had issues. Andrew Gordon in the no.49 truck had to stop after his tire came off. That brought a relatively long red flag.
Raphael Lessard kept his lead and won practice 1 for trucks at Bristol dirt. Carson Hocevar was second and Hailie Deegan completed the top 3. Chase Briscoe was the quickest Cup Series driver in the fourth position.
