Long contract negotiations were done between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes before the Brit signed a new paper for 2021. However, the 7-time world champion does not feel like this is his last F1 season.

“In the current position I’m in I don’t feel like this is the end,” said Hamilton during Formula 1’s press conference ahead of the series’ season-opener in Bahrain.

The 36-year-old expressed excitement in front of the huge regulation changes the sport will undergo for next year’s season. He explained: “Of course we’ve got these changes that are happening next year which are exciting.”

Before the season started with the testing and up until now, it is unclear if the 7-time world champion will continue his Formula 1 career beyond 2021.

But the reigning champion expressed optimism considering a continuation of his Formula 1 career in 2022. “I don’t feel like I’m at the end. But in the next eight months, I’ll find out whether I’m ready to stop or not. I don’t think I will, personally, but you never know”, he said.

Although his Mercedes team had a difficult start to 2021, following a poor performance during the pre-season tests and the least clocked-in laps of the circuit at Sakhir, Hamilton also looks forward to the upcoming season.

“It’s massively exciting for us as a team. We are currently not the fastest. And how are we going to work together, how are we going to unite in order to get to where we want to be. For me, I’m super excited for that challenge. Seeing some of the other teams close, I think it’s going to be great for fans. But I love that collaboration with the men and women in my team and trying to get to a common goal.”
