Byron dominates Bristol’s Dirt iRacing Pro Invitational race

We were able to see the stars of NASCAR race for the first time virtually in 2021 – the Cup drivers raced on the highly anticipated Bristol Dirt track.

The night started off with three heat races, all 20 lap shootouts with the top 7 of each event advancing to the main feature. The heats were determined by qualifying time, where the drivers had two laps to post a fast lap. There were no cautions in each heat race.

Each of those races consisted of 12 to 14 drivers. James Davison, William Byron, and Ryan Preece each won one of the runnings. Big names like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Clint Bowyer participated in the event but did not make the feature.

The main feature was a 70 lap event, with cautions. 21 drivers, 7 from each heat, qualified for the event.

This race had an early caution, with Alex Bowman and Corey LaJoie getting together, later collecting Joey Logano. Each of these drivers selected to use one of their two fast repairs, to restart their race in a completely undamaged, perfect car.

Drivers like William Byron who is known for starting his racing career on racing simulators looked very strong out of the gate. Kyle Larson and Chris Buescher were not far behind as they were battling hard in the top five.

A second incident collecting many drivers like Timmy Hill, Quin Houff, Kyle Larson, and Corey LaJoie brought out a caution with 16 to go in the race.

William Byron was able to race the top groove all race to end up winning NASCAR’s first iRacing event of the year.

NASCAR’s next virtual Pro Invitational event will be held on April 21st at Talladega SuperSpeedway.
