It was a long-kept mystery on who will take over the last free seat on the Formula 2 grid at MP Motorsport. Now it has been announced that Richard Verschoor will join Lirim Zendeli for the first race weekend in Bahrain.

“Can’t believe it’s happening. My debut in the Formula 2 series. It will not be easy but definitely ready to push with the MP Motorsports crew”, was the caption of Richard Verschoor’s newest Instagram posting.

The 20-year-old Dutchman now announced that he will fill in the empty seat of the Formula 2 grid for at least one race weekend. For a long time, it was unknown, who would become a temporary teammate of German Lirim Zendeli in the no.11 car at MP Motorsport for the time being. Also, his team confirmed Verschoor’s debut, stating that they would continue with their testing lineup for the season opener.

The Formula 3 driver will graduate into the Formula 2 series for at least one race weekend, after having tested for the team in the pre-season testing a few weeks ago. Back then he ended up in P18 twice before finishing in eighth place on the closing day of the event. Now the Dutch driver is “ready to hit the track” at the upcoming weekend.

Verschoor was already racing for MP Motorsport in Formula 3 last year, finishing the season in ninth place and scoring a podium in the sprint race of the Austrian Grand Prix. The newest newcomer on the F2 grid has been connected to the Dutch team since his single-seater debut in 2016 and will now celebrate his Formula 2 debut at the season-opener in Bahrain. If he stays for more commitments this season has not been revealed, for now, it remains one race weekend.
