One of the most interesting technical insights we saw in pre-season testing was McLaren’s clever design of their diffuser.

Andreas Seidl says he’s happy a team like McLaren has been able to innovate to the point other teams want to replicate their technology and affirms they’ll stay attentive to the situation.

“It’ll be interesting to see how it develops in the coming weeks and if teams are going to replicate the solution. It’s awesome to see and I’m happy our aerodynamics department found this solution,” said Seidl to RTL.

Seidl said they’re happy with the progress made in pre-season testing, but affirms that it is not easy to make predictions as it is unknown what the other teams are doing.

“I’m very happy with what we achieved in Bahrain. The objective was to make as many laps as possible after switching to the Mercedes Power Unit and preparing Ricciardo into the team as best as possible into the first race,” he said.

“We did well in all three days, but it’s difficult to evaluate where exactly we are in terms of performance. I expect a tight and exciting battle in the midfield, and it’ll be decided by one, two, or three tenths.

“It’s very difficult to see where everyone is. We think we’re well prepared and, again, in a very tight battle. We would be really happy with a podium in the first race, concluded Seidl.
