Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas has admitted that the 2021 Formula 1 pre-season has been quite tough for himself and the team.

The 2021 Formula 1 pre-season testing in Bahrain has been anything but easy for Mercedes – they have had issues with the gearbox and overall struggled with the new car. The drivers Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton have also found some difficulties because of the unstable rear end of the car. The Finn has reflected on the 2021 pre-season.

“With this team, it’s definitely been the most challenging start to the season in terms of testing”, Bottas says. “And now, time is even more limited nowadays. So definitely not ideal.”

“But… at least I feel that the recovery has been pretty good in the last couple of days. I feel ready. I felt like I had enough time in the car. I feel with the short runs, the long runs, really comfortable with everything and confident, so from my side, I’m ready, and as a team, we will be ready, no doubt. As ready as anyone else and hopefully even better”, he adds.

Despite difficult testing, Valtteri Bottas is sure that Mercedes will be among the favorites this season: “I absolutely believe the car and the team, it has the potential [to take the title]. I don’t think it’s yet there as a package in terms of performance, but I’ve no doubt that we will work hard to find it somehow.”

Valtteri Bottas has set the ninth quickest lap time of the 2021 Formula 1 pre-season testing – 1:30.289 on the C5 tires.
