18-year-old Ty Gibbs finished second in his 2nd career Xfinity Series start. The 200-lap race finished with a two-lap shootout that had Gibbs move from third to second on the restart.

Ty Gibbs ended up being the runner-up on Saturday at Phoenix but made one last charge into turn three. He dove into the corner to try to get an inside edge on the winner, Austin Cindric but wasn’t close enough to do so. This set up some questions post-race regarding if this move was as deep as he could have gone and what his intentions were.

He was asked about this last-ditch effort to possibly take out Austin Cindric’s no.22 before the line and Ty replied: “I don’t think that’s [wrecking for the win] respectful at all”. He also added: “I don’t want that to happen to me and I wouldn’t do that to anyone else if I was that far back and that’s plain out wrecking them for the win”.

In the end Ty Gibbs mentioned: “I race respectfully with these guys. I have a ton of respect for them”. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver knows that his Daytona win a few weeks ago is not something that will grant him all the respect in the field. His words show that his name will be the one to stay and move through the highest ranks of NASCAR for years to come.
