Fernando Alonso made his Formula 1 comeback with Alpine after two sabbatical years in which he competed in other series.
The two-times World Champion missed the car launch due to a cycling accident in Switzerland. However, he was considered fit to take part in the pre-season testing.
During the second day, he went back on track with the Alpine A521 collecting 127 laps in total.
“Yeah the car feels good,” he said. “I think we still have to understand a little bit of the characteristics of the new aero package and the 2021 rules, so there’s still some work to do but I think we are following the program that we set two days ago, yesterday with Esteban [Ocon]; today with myself.”
Moreover, Alonso’s fastest lap was set with the C2 (hard) compound, which means that he was the second-fastest driver with that compound, just behind the Red Bull driver Sergio Perez.
Finally, he explained that the team planned to perform long-runs and everything went well.
“I think our choice for the winter has been to choose the harder compounds and to run as many laps as possible,” he said, “so you know, we are I think qualifying in two weeks [and that] will be the time for the softs, not even tomorrow.”
