Neom has applied to be the next venue for Formula E races in Saudi Arabia and is being considered as a successor to Diriyah.
A relocation of the site is an issue as the state has announced the “Saudi Vision 30” program and wants to bring more tourists to the country.
The planned “Smart City” Neom is very interested in hosting future Formula E races to become a center of motorsport in the state. Neom has already hosted a stage of the 2021 Dakar Rally and Extreme E is also coming there in April with the Desert E-Prix.
Neom sports partnership director Neal Coupland said: “Saudi Arabia has shown its ambitions to host a variety of different forms of motorsport. Neom is excited about the possibility and the future of hosting a Formula E event.”
Coupland also revealed that there have been talks between the city of Neom and Formula E officials where a relocation of the track was discussed:
“We’d be very interested in having more serious discussions about it. There have been some loose conversations. We’ve talked to Formula E and we’ve talked to Extreme E and we’re excited by the developments in both of those. I have no doubt that one day Formula E will be in Neom, but we don’t know exactly which year it will be yet.”
